Port de Balès - the Pyrenees are empty!

Post by Stella » Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:15 pm

This afternoon we popped out over the Col de Peyrosourde and then the much narrower and quieter Port de Balès - in fact apart from at the top we passed just two cars and no bikes at all (but a lot of sheep) on the hour long run from Saint Aventin to Mauléon-Barousse! We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep.
Loads of bikes out on the better known passes, but I think they may be missing out on the hidden gems of the central Pyrenees.

And you picked a great weather day as well.
We have booked a short trip down to the east end of the Pyrenees on the Spanish side for the end of this week. The forecast is not looking as good. Will go down via Perpignan and back through Andorra. Will be looking at the passes you mention for a trip later in the year, but for this trip they are a bit far west of where we are staying. M & C

Give us a shout next time you're over this way and we could meet up for a potter around the back roads, or at least point out some on the map :D . Fingers crossed for the weather - Thursday & Friday do look a little iffy :(
