Wanted - plastic model kits

Post by Breninfrance » Sat Mar 10, 2018 11:20 am

it's allabout the building for me, I love Tamiya remote control cars, the 4WD pick up truck, with the steel ladder chassis, leaf springs, detailed working axles, with diff locks, DROOL, way out of my price range!
once built I have no interest in them, as a kid I used to shoot my airfix kits with my air rifle

Airfix kits were good in their day for kids on limited budgets/spending money. I learnt so much about 2nd world war planes and tanks from them, not that it ever proved useful apart from the odd quiz question. The American Sherman tank was an M4 to the yanks, it was christened the Sherman by the Brits, named after the Civil War general. As Michael Caine would have said, not many people know that.

I'm a member of these groups:

One20five Scale Automotive Art and IPMS UK Hot Rod and Custom Car Models Special Interest Group

these guys produce some amazing detail builds, and the style suits me as I cant build full size custom cars and bikes any more.

A few of this year's builds attached.

The truck was the kit which got me into modelling cars in the early sixties. I built it badly then, then it eventually ended up in the bin. I found one built up for sale on one of the above websites, in a very sorry state, so i had to buy it and turn it into a 4x4. Its even the same color as my last one!

I was looking at the Model A spares site today and thought that you might be interested in these. They’re probably the same as you know about anyway...

Thanks for the link David - interesting stuff there , but I normally only collect 1/24 and 1/25 plastic kits. Since starting from scratch last year I now have about 50 unbuilt kits and I'm building one per month. Plus I've started doing dioramas too, so I've enough to keep me going for many years.

I used to have a 1/1oth scale Tamiya Fox back in the day. Proper shelf queen too with the original gold wheels. I still have a couple of kits that I've had for decades that I've yet to put together: RC30, NR750 and a Mazda MX5 (for when I owned one for six years). Keep saying that their time will come. One day...
Yes there are two paths you can go down, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on...

I now build on average one car per month, and show them on model sites in the US and UK. I've now got enough unbuilt ones to last 5 years or more. This one won 2 competitions last year.
