Very sad - saw it on the news. There was a massive pile up in a GT car race on the same track.

I have seen the vid of his crash. Pretty awful. There was a big crash on a car race previously in the same place. And due to the car race, rubber on the track. Car rubber doesn't go down on the same line as bikes use. Looks like he started sliding, then the bike gripped and he did a high sider. The Macao track is horrid; it's a street track with all Armco barriers. No room for error. Bad enough in a car; deadly on a bike. On a "normal" track he might have just been catapulted through the gravel on the run off strips and walked away.

Macau has got to be the scariest track inthe world. I wouldnt race there if you paid me - on 2 wheels or 4. Mind you I wouldnt race anywhere on 2 wheels.
I prefer tracks like my old local ones - Inglston, Crail, East Fortune, and Knockhill , but have raced on stock car ovals. All ARMCO on the outside but grass on the inside. The speeds were low enough so you just worried about damage to your car and not yourself.

Very sad news about Dan Hegarty. I didn't know him, but I understand he was a really nice bloke who always had a lot of time for youngsters in the paddock.
It's no surprise that things like this happen at Macau - it is a crazy place to race a motorcycle. I have raced at the Manx GP, which was scary enough
but I wouldn't dream of racing at Macau!
