Agree totally Chris. I think by now Hodgson should know his starting 11, but I am not sure he does. For me Rooney should not be in it or at least should not be so far forward that it forces Vardy and Kane virtually in the stand. Vardy is a goalscorer that needs a ball played through or over the top so he can run onto it and not the pedestrian build up we had yesterday.

Exactly, that's how he got most of his Leicester goals, the slow build up doesn't suit him. Rooney midfield is a natural progression for him and he'll still score goals. I'm hoping he (Roy) is just being canny and not showing his strongest hand but I doubt it.

That was poor.

It doesn't look to me as though Hodgson quite knows yet who to play nor in what position. Playing players out of position is not playing to their strengths and makes them look decidedly average. Kane, Vardy and Rooney doesn't work - it's confusing them all. Vardy's not a winger and Rooney can't make up his mind where he wants to be. Why is Kane taking free kicks? It's all over the shop.

I can only think that Hodgson is intending to use the group stage matches to find his ideal set up - hoping that they make it out of them. It does not bode well but it's not unknown for teams not to click until the knock out stages.

Although it's Saturday I thought today was a football free zone until I just happened on England ladies scoring for fun against Serbia in the Euro 2017 qualifiers. Should have been double figures but I suppose 7 is alright. Roll on next Friday.

Was that on TV, never saw it in the listings? BBC says easy win for France.

It was easy, and to be honest, France weren't sparkling. The first goal was a touvh of class.

Well they kicked off last night. France weren't sparkling again until that Payet goal, what a strike! The opening games are always a bit cagey but it wasn't too bad. Let's hope we perform better than the England fans in Marseille tonight.

What by drinking more and getting into fights with the locals and the police. Sounds like an average Saturday in Newcastle :)
