Visit from the Gendarmes this morning.

"Did you give money for the Pompiers?"
"Yes"
"How much?"
"€20 for a very crap calendar"
"It was not the Pompiers" incon_doh

Now got to go and give a statement.

Theiving gits! I never give anyone cash at the door, unless I know them. I've been seeing the same pompiers here for years (luckily) - they come around in their uniforms each year. We always have a chat as I'm an ex fireman.

I was very busy that day and was just not paying attention.
Quite amusing at the Gendarmerie as they first asked for a description and then if I could recognise him again. Doubtful, said I.
Anyway, they put pictures of nine guys on the screen and I could not pick him out.
They then told me which one it was icon_fran icon_thumbup

Nothing worse than a scrotum taking the urine, at least you got a calendar. They should throw it at him.

For some weird and wonderful reason, the pompiers never call here. Not at the door anyway. Sometimes they leave their calendar in the letter box.

And, no, we don't deliberately hide or ignore them!

It's normal procedure here, the pompiers always come round with their calendar, one of them in uniform and I always give them cash unless I miss them. I would have fallen for it too.

Pompier Calendars almost always have a back page with the photos of your local station personnel. So if you know any of the local guys, then you can look at it. Plus the person bringing it will themselves be on the picture.
They should also give you a receipt ; your donation goes to the “Amicale des Pompiers” for your region or town. Your donation is your “honourary membership” for the year.
There is also a national date on which the calendar sales start. Normally mid November - I think it’s 17 November this year.

Also in Baignes, they give you a receipt with a number on, which is then entered into the Christmas draw, …….but in 14 years I never won nowt, incon_doh

I would have been VERY suspicious at being charged €20, it is a £5 where I holiday in Brittany. (Or in one case nothing as I exchange it for a Lizard Lifeboat calendar.)

There is no “charge” anyway. It’s a voluntary donation. That can be 10 Cents or €100. It’s whatever you choose.
