French driving licence

Not sure why they have differed:
French expiry by photo is 15 years.
Mrs Jam changed her licence 5 years ago; and is was valid for 5 years;
I changed mine 2 years ago and it is a 15 year licence.
I think it used to be 5 years for first licence, then 15 years thereafter; and they have just dropped the 5 year bit about 2 or 3 years ago

French driving licence

Weird thing today - went to the sous prefecture today to as about this - the girl there its only certain categories that expire at that date (which isnt my birthday). Personally I think she hadnt a clue. Then it got weird - I needed a couple of sheets photocopied. She took ages doing it, then I handed her a 5 euros notewhich she just hung onto. I asked her how much for the copies - she said "gratuit" but hung on to the money. When I asked for it back she looked disappointed. So, I've not got any confidence in the advice she gave me re the licence.

French driving licence

I received a message yesterday telling me to upload a medical certificate. Maybe I should have added a note to my original application to say that I didn't want to retain the categories that required one. They're doing the right thing in not assuming something either way. Fair enough I guess.

New licence arrived today - and is valid for 15 years. That should see me through!
